Taktsang Monastery, Paro, Bhutan

Perched high on the cliffs of Bhutan's Paro Valley, Taktsang Monastery, or Tiger's Nest, is one of Bhutan's most revered sacred sites. According to tradition, Guru Padmasambhava, also known as Guru Rinpoche, flew to this remote mountainside in the eighth century on the back of a tigress, meditated here, and further spread the Buddha Dharma in Bhutan.

For generations, Taktsang has remained a symbol of faith, devotion, and spiritual perseverance. Its dense forests and steep mountain paths remind us that meaningful journeys demand patience, determination, and inner strength. In Buddhism, this journey is also an inward one — a path toward awakening, seeing the true nature of reality, and freeing the mind from ignorance and suffering. Rising from the cliffs amid pristine nature, Taktsang also reflects an enduring bond between the Bhutanese Buddhist tradition and the natural world

Chand Bhattarai is a Bhutanese contemporary artist whose work is inspired by the country’s culture, landscape and living traditions. Serving as both the illustrator and packaging designer for this exclusive jigsaw puzzle project, his illustration of Taktsang Monastery oers an earthy and vibrant perspective on one of Bhutan’s most sacred monuments.
