The Four Harmonious Friends

Originating in the Buddhist Jātaka tradition, the story of the Four Friends tells of a bird, a rabbit, a monkey, and an elephant who learn to live together through mutual respect and cooperation. By recognizing one another's wisdom and experience rather than size or strength, they create a harmonious community in which each contributes to the well-being of the others.

The story reflects the Buddhist principle of interdependence, reminding us all beings are connected and that our happiness and survival depend on compassion, respect, and cooperation. Widely cherished in Bhutan, it continues to symbolize the importance of living in harmony with one another and with the natural world.
